Koblenz (Rhineland-Palatinate state) is an ancient city in central Germany. After World War I, France occupied the area. During World War II it was the location of the command of German Army Group B. In 2002, the Rhine Gorge was declared a World Heritage Site, with Koblenz marking the northern end.
